Do you have questions related to web hosting?

Nah, but if I did I would probably post it in the respective category. Like the one listed below:

What is the difference between a domain name and web hosting?

I want to get my own website up and running, so I went to look at prices around the place... I found a good site which has domain names at $11/year, but I%26#039;m confusing myself because I%26#039;m not sure of the difference between a domain name and web hosting - I want quite a lot of space, and I will use Frontpage to make my site because that also has an upload facility attached, so I just need the domain name right?

However, I cant see anything about how much space I get when I buy a domain name, so this makes me think I need to get web hosting.... please help!!

Thanks :)

Go to %26quot;https://www.godaddy.com%26quot; you can get both for $8.95 a year and lower. Depending on what you want and need. They support Frontpage.

A domain name works like an address forwarding service.

All of your Web site content sits on a computer with a unique address. This is called an IP address. An IP address is made up of a series of numbers, such as 123.23.234.45. Your domain name directs visitors to your site using this IP address.

We use domain names instead of IP addresses because most people find it easier to remember a name rather than a series of numbers.

In order to choose the right hosting plan, you閳ユ獟l need to consider a few things:

Design

How was your Web site designed? For example, if you designed an ASP or ASP.NET Web site, you%26#039;ll need to find a Windows hosting plan. If you have a Web site that uses CGI or PHP, you%26#039;ll need to get a Linux hosting plan.

Traffic

How much traffic or how many visitors do you expect monthly? The more visitors or traffic you expect on your site, the higher the bandwidth you will need.

Size

How large is your site? If you%26#039;re planning on having a large site with a lot of multimedia content, you%26#039;ll probably need additional disk space.

Hope this helps.

What is the difference between a domain name and web hosting?

A domain name is the www.yoursitename.com and web hosting is the comany that will host that domain name and give you space to put your website up onto the World Wide Web and allow people to access and view your website.

:) Good

Other Replys:A domain name converts an IP address to a human readable format. An IP address is an address all the computers on the internet have so they can transfer information. You can find your own at www.ipchicken.com. (Whose IP address happens to be harder to remember: 209.68.27.16.) A web host is a computer somewhere in the world that runs all day and night and runs a website for you. So a domain name is a name to access a website. a webhost is the actual computer that keeps the website running.

Other Replys:When you buy a domain name, it is just reserving the name so noone else can use it. For example, if you decided to buy widgitdesigns.com, then noone else can. But theres no way to put files on it.

Web Hosting, is a company who will let you use their computers to store all of your files for your domain name.

Lets say NetworkSolutions is hosting your website. When you type widgitdesigns.com it will know to access networksolutions, and look for index.html and the rest of your files.

Other Replys:Go to http://www.LocoDomains.com get a domain for $6.95 and add hosting which you need, web hosting is server space to upload your files.

Other Replys:How to List a Domain Name

There are two principal steps to make your website on the internet and registering/booking a domain name is the number one.

A domain name builds the address of your site and can end in . com, . net, . org, . info, . us, . biz, . tv and further.

Directly afer you have registered your name, you will pick a web host (2nd step). The web host is the guts of any website as this is where you build and publish your pages, build purchase fillings, insert service and preserve your site.

Everything you need to give your Web site the reliable, high-performance home it deserves!

99.9% Uptime Guarantee too.

As low as $3.99/month!

Ideal for most individuals and small business. Featuring up to 200 GB disk space, up to 2,000 GB bandwidth, database(s) and FREE scripts.

I have very specific etiquette questions concerning hosting a baby shower. Can you help me?

There are 4 of us hosting a baby shower. What is the etiquette regarding each of us giving the mother-to-be gifts? I am being told that it is etiquette for the hostesses to give 1 gift as a group. If you have a personal gift that it should not be given during the shower. Is this correct? So far, I have not been able to find protocol on this specific topic.

Decide as a group what you would like to do. If the majority want to give a gift, then give yours a a separate time. If everyone wants to give their own gift, then problem solved!

I don%26#039;t know of any protocol regarding this but common sense tells me that the group does what it wants to do. But if the group buys one big present than no personal gifts should be given at that time.

Other Replys:Either the hostesses should give a group gift or individual gifts. Not both. It would not be good manners to participate in a group gift AND give an individual gift. That would make it look like you were trying to %26quot;one up%26quot; the other hostesses. If you have a personal gift you would like to give, either give it as part of a wedding gift or give it to the bride to be at lunch or when you are together alone.

However, just because you are one of four hostesses, does not mean that you have to participate in a group gift. You can choose not to be included in the group gift and give your own gift. It%26#039;s up to you. There is no %26quot;rule%26quot; that says you HAVE to go along with the group, or that all the hostesses HAVE to give a group gift.

Other Replys:I think it%26#039;s proper etiquette to give one gift as a group from the hostesses. I faced the same issue when I was hosting a baby shower for a friend and turns out the group gift idea panned out better than I had imagined. There are so many things to remember about etiquette when it comes to social events and gatherings. Good luck!

Other Replys:The only rule I know of is only one person hosts the shower. Problem solved.

Other Replys:You%26#039;re giving gifts towards the benefit of the baby. If all of the hostesses can%26#039;t afford an individual gift, then you should all chip in for one gift and individual gifts can be given later. But the more gifts the better. What%26#039;s a baby shower without gifts?!

Other Replys:I have never heard of any rules on gift giving...

When my friends gave me a shower, they all went in on a port-a-crib and filled it with tons of baby goodies - onesies, bottles, bibs, blankets, diapers, etc.

You could also all go in on a stroller or a bigger ticket item that one person couldn%26#039;t afford on their own.

Other Replys:It can be either, and each way is fine.

How do I set up a web hosting service if a friend wants me to build him a web site?

If a friend wants me to build a web site for his plumbing business, how do I set up a hosting package? Do I purchase an account from a web server or do I make him do that? If I purchase the account, do I give him access? What do other people do?

How do I set up a web hosting service if a friend wants me to build him a web site?

In my experience, I have suggested purchases, keeping the client informed (sometimes bugging the client at every step along the way, and maybe too much for the client%26#039;s patience, but enough to be ethical on my part). I had the client physically present for the web hosting purchase (to enter e.g. credit card info including validation number on back of card) and to enter an agreed-upon access password, for both of us. We printed website access info (logon info, FTP access info, etc. Most assuredly, the client had access, in case my services prove unsatisfactory, or in case the client proves unsatisfactory to me and (for either of these reasons) we decide to quit doing business with each other...

How do I set up a web hosting service if a friend wants me to build him a web site?

use a hosting service if they charge a fee of 11.99 a month bill him 15.99 a month and charge to set it up!

Other Replys:It%26#039;s best to pick out a good web hosting service that meets his needs and then sit with him and help him sign up. Everything should be in his name, including the domain. Pretty much the only thing you should share with him is the password to upload files and maintain the website.

Other Replys:well it is his biz, tell him the requirements and some good places to get it from. he then has to shop for one himself. once he got one he has to give you access to the account so you can work on it.

depending on the requirements of the site ftp access maybe enough. if you need database then he has to provide you with info for that as well.

Other Replys:you just go through a web hosting service online like startlogic or yahoo hosting. Startlogic has 4.95 plans and probably the richest in features.

Other Replys:set up an account for $4.95/month at http://www.JuicyHosting.com and charge him $14.95/month, that $120 a year profit for you
