What are the basic hardware and software needs for hosting your website on your own server?

I am doing a school assignment on hosting your own website. One of the questions asks what hardware and software is needed to host your website on your own server. I%26#039;m hoping someone here can help me answer it.

Thanks

Sara

If you have a DSL or cable connection you could be onliine in about 2 hours.

Equipment:

P-II 400mhz or greater

RAM 256mb

Win2000 Pro (my favorite)

I use IIS service that comes wth W2k and XP. Good fo basic hosting.

If you have a dynamic IP address you will need a service that will report any changes to the Tier 1 DNS services. I have been using httop://www.NO-IP.com for years. It is free.
